Smells strongly of lactic acid, with notes of pear, coconut, vanilla, and pineapple. The lactic acid is very present in the mouth- this sour is sour. That coconut is definitely there too, as soon as the sourness fades. The pineapple brings a bit of sweetness to balance it out. Moderately dry finish. If you don’t like that lactic taste present in some sours, you definitely won’t like this. I could take it or leave it, though it did get a lot tastier after a few sips. I can definitely appreciate it for what it is- the coconut and the pineapple go well together.

Pina Colada
Shades Brewery
Date: unknown
Staying with Shade, I will try another beer; hopefully, this one is much better. I chose to use a pilsner glass; the temperature is around 44 degrees. Pineapple and coconut emitted after I popped the tab. The pour of the beer created a frothy and creamy one-fingered white head with above-average retention. Slowly dissipating, no lacing was left on the glass from the head. The color charts around SRM 12, medium amber with orange hues. Putting the beer up to a light source; reveals some haze with carbonation bubbles.
The aromas are pineapple, coconut, fruity sweetness, salt, and cereal grains.
I taste sea air, pineapple, coconut, fruity sweetness, a slight lemon tartness, and lightly toasted grains.
The mouthfeel is somewhat tarty and dry.
The body is light, has medium-high carbonation, and a quick finish.
The beer is far better than the last one I consumed. I wanted more tartness in the beer and less sweetness. It is refreshing and does not have any unpleasant aftertastes.

Cloudy pale amber body, off-white head. So in both smell and taste kveik yeast is done very well without getting to robust or grainy, while the pina colada, the pineapple especially, shines through. My only qualm is their interaction is odd together, but this is a fleeting moment in the middle of it all. Feel is medium-light bodied, yeast anchors the sourness and sweetness from getting out of control. Elements executed well enough but it isn't something I need to have again

From the 2020 Advent calendar.
I don't think that this qualifies as beer, but it was a rather tasty fermented beverage. Big coconut aroma and strong pineapple flavor, followed by a coconut aftertaste. Not sour, which frankly worried me before I started. Kveik was a good yeast choice.

Day 5 of the beer advent calendar
Nice place hazy pour with a fair head. Smell showed clear scents of pina colada. As advertised the sour taste hit hard and the coconut and pineapple were evident. Sour, but not overpowering. Went down smooth and clean. A very unique offering that lived up to what it advertised. Certainly enjoyed it.

Totally fun 12oz can poured into a teku:
A: Hazed straw/orange with a small creamy head that fades quickly.
S: Big aromas of pineapple and even bigger coconut; tropical and floral with notes of citrus juice. Nice and inviting.
T: The coconut really pushes to the front here; lots of tropical sweetness and impressions creamy white chocolate, vanilla, lime, and even graham cracker to go along with the pineapple. Hint of tartness.
MF: Creamy and lighter.
O: Really nice dessert beer but definitely not very sour, more sweet with a hint of tartness, very good though.

12 oz can. Medium golden, sparse head. Aroma is coconut, tropical fruit. Taste brings some lime, light tartness. Another great one, this would be grweat in the summer..

part of their kveik series. a really tasty gose or berliner type sour golden ale here done like a pina colada with coconut and pineapple, possibly also some citrus as well, as i get a strong hint of that, although it could be some fruity tang from the lacto that sours this. really pretty well done beer, skeptical as i have been of this sort of thing, its hard to argue that this isnt summery, refreshing, and delicious. a few aspects really set it apart from the crowd. the first is that its not too sour, summer cocktail flavors like this needs to be drinkable in some volume, and this is never too acidic to have a bunch of, super smart there. secondly, the coconut and the pineapple are both natural and really obvious without overtaking the beer, they marry well together obviously pop at the right time, but dont get sugary or dominant at all. third, the base beer is excellent, salty like, or mineral forward enough to highlight the added ingredients and wheaty enough to still taste and feel like beer, probably excellent on its own. nuances here of fresh lime zest, toasted coriander seed, and meyer lemon, almost like a frozen pina colada melted down into the beer. if this is fermented with the newly famous kveik yeast as the name suggests, than someone has finally figured out the right context for it, nice with the bacterial acidity and more saison-esque than i have known it to be in the past, a less invasive complexion for sure. good carbonation too just sets it off, and overall a really impressive beer here. if there is lactose in this, it adds, not detracts from the beer, just a bit of sweet creaminess at the end like coconut cream would be in the drink. a beer to be celebrated!
edit: they have made a million different beers in this series now, but this one stands as one of the best, and most consistent, of them all. its so reliably amazing, definitely a highlight of their existence!
