12 oz can, born on 4/23/20, best by 10/24/20. Into Prairie Rastal Glass, from BA member Hinda65.
"Sour Ale with Sweet Cherry, Pistachio, and Lactose". 5.7% ABV.
Pours a murky cherry juice color with a creamy pink head of 2 fingers that recedes to a very thin ring with no lacing.
Aroma is very sour and tart, vinegar-like with hints of restroom and unspecified tart fruit.
Flavor brings a bit more complexity. Vinegar leads this one off, but ripe cherry and lactose soon follow, and yes I get the pistachio but it comes in the earthy/nutty form and actually you mostly get the seed coat but it's overall faint. The taste is enjoyable though, but still a bit overly sour and leans towards the vinegar side of things.
Feel is semi-creamy, dare I say a little slick, with a quiet carbonation and an acidity that bathes the tongue and treats it like a pincushion. Some dryness coats the mouth on the finish.
Overall, not a bad sour ale, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the elements listed on the can to be perceptible on the palate.
