The beers I generally consume from Shade are the sours. The temperature is 40 degrees and served in a tulip glass. A frothy and creamy medium tan head was created. No lacing on the glass after the slow dissipation. The color is charts around SRM 38, dark engine oil brown. The appearance is above average for this style.
Smelling the beer a few times, I detect cinnamon, vanilla, coffee, dark chocolate, and raisin. Nosing the glass several more times, I notice dark roasted malts, a hint of char, bready, molasses, and alcohol.
The flavors are molasses, milk chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, roasty malts, a touch of char, a hint of smoke, oats, raisins, medium roasted coffee, earthiness, bready, caramel, and toffee.
The mouthfeel is chewy and sticky. The body is heavy, has low carbonation, and has a lasting finish.
This beer is a beast. It is so thick and heavy I need a knife and fork to drink it. It is hard for me to say this, but it is too thick. The beer has a consistency of a fruit smoothie. The flavors pop and are balanced. Overall a good stout, but not for me.

L: Somehow this beer just looks thick. Black body, unfiltered, a hazy stout? Nice medium brown head, with darker brown specks. Unique appearance.
S: Boozy and malty. Dark chocolate, a hint of vanilla, and big cinnamon notes. Bitter and spicy.
T: Not as bitter as the nose. Semi sweet chocolate, caramel, marshmallow. Notes of vanilla and coffee on the tail, as well as lingering cinnamon. Moderate booze.
F: Verrrry thick and sticky. Like, take a bite.
O: I can see how this wouldn’t be up some folks alley, it’s super thick and sweet. I love the appearance, it’s definitely not your standard cup of coffee look. Not enough bitterness to balance it out for me, but as a desert beer? Yeah pretty good.

12oz can poured into a tumbler. Very dark black liquid, opaque and viscous, with minimal mocha head. Fairly roasty with a big underlying residual sweetness, with lots of vanilla and a big lactose character, minor spicing and cinnamon. Finishes with an ashy roast. Creamy and full bodied; thick, with light carbonation.
