another cool weird sour from these guys, chili forward and pretty complex. it also seems more refined than a lot of the others have over the years, like its more professionally done, less gunky and clunky and heavy and sedimented and dull, the flavors have always been good, but now the actual beer is too it seems. smokey jalapeno and lime are the extras in this, way more of the former than the latter, but both do their thing in this and work predictably well together. light orange color to this, no chunks, fizzy but not holding onto much head, hazy but not sloppy. the nose is spicy, the peppers hit right away, the smoke aspect is light to me and i definitely still get that verdant vegetal thick walled fresh jalapeno, very authentic in this, and strong without being super hot, like its real obvious but its not aggressive, and the lime seems fresh, cuts this nicely, and works well with the piquant sourness, they resonate at a similar pitch to me, mouthwatering and strange. the flavor is pretty complex actually, an almost saison note to the ferment, another kveik ferment for these guys, good acidity, zesty lime, other mid palate fruitiness too, tamarind, dried mango, nice on top of the grain, which must have some wheat in the mix, fluffy feeling as it drinks and well grounded and earthy. the jalapeno is there most of the way, some roasted or cooked character now too. heat on the back of the tongue and in the throat is somewhat significant, like this isnt for everyone, but i really like where its at, and it doesnt last long. the lime keeps it refreshing, and it still tastes and feels like a beer. i think it approximates a spicy margarita pretty effectively. been awhile since i had a shades beer, so this was especially exciting. really well done, great use of the peppers!
