Had this on nitro draft. Delicious. The oak barrel character shines through. Real smooth brown. Add in they grow their own hops just adds to the overall "local" story of their beers.

Ruhstaller's Dirt "Valley Oak", oaked brown ale. 7.9% ABV.

A: Almost two fingers of tan head. Pours a rich brown. Black in the glass. Honey brown in the dimple. Faint sheeting, but it seems to hold. Slow cascade of tiny bubbles, but very little lacing.

S: Very interesting aroma. Notes of cola, licorice, dirt, light tobacco, sweet bread. Subtle leaf scent. Slight nutiness, with a touch of menthol.

T/MF: The taste is just as unique. Char and sweetened cocoa dominate, but also dark toffee and a slight note of graphite. Slight chalk note, and yet the texture is quite smooth. Some kind of sweet leafy flavor. A bit of... gum rubber, I think? Light tobacco hiding in the back. Just the suggestion of some kind of waxiness. There's a lot here. If the aim is to showcase Sacramento's terroir (which I believe it is), color me intrigued.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle, into a Belgian tulip glass.
