In some ways this isn't a fair review. This is the second beer I tried from this brewery and both had production problems. There's also zero information about this beer on the Ruhstaller site which is listing 2016 brews in July of 2017. I'd like to support these guys (California locals, good intent, adventurous brews etc) but...
9% abv from a lot of 230 cases per the label. Production date anyone? Best by date anyone? Has a band of fabric wrapped around the neck which I guess is typical for their bombers.
Appearance - medium cola brown with orange tint. Pale tan head, fiine bubbles, substantial lacing. Has glass appeal.
Smell - nothing pleasant. Musty ginger.
Taste - BRETT! with a faint background of hops. I love sours and my alternate choice for the evening was a sour so I made it through the bottle. It doesn't succeed as a sour - the taste is nearly one dimensional BRETT! and nothing else that tastes good or interesting.
Mouth - light carbonation, refreshing.
I looked at another site for reviews, about half of which said good or at least decent barleywine, and half of which said undrinkable BRETT! Caveat emptor.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
