Brownish amber in the glass with modest foam and sufficient carbonation. There is a definite touch of licorice. Big malt and lots of caramel flavors.
This is oddly strong for the style, but that is typical of the brewery and it seems to work. For a Brown Ale it has some nicer roasted malt tones plus a splash of bitterish hops. An interesting ale that is off the beaten track and thoroughly drinkable. A warm malty brew with plenty of roasted flavors, but less crisp and more of a stew of grains and hops.
On tap at the brewery in the industrial area near Green Flash just south of MIra Mesa Blvd.
