4oz taster served at the Brew House. Pours a coffee brown color with a tan head. The nose is dominated by cherry and yeast. A slight, almost barley-note on the nose is present, but not the astringency I anticipated from a rye beer. The palate is similarly sour-cherry heavy, and a full yeast-and-malt flavor is detectable without the rich toasty flavor of a stout. The mouthfeel is medium-light, much lighter than the look and pour would lead one to anticipate. Overall, it's a good beer, with a well-executed cherry predilection. Still, the underlying saison was a little too ho-hum, and the body of the beer too thin (even for a saison) to make this too terribly exciting. A well-executed beer, but nothing mind-blowing.
