On-tap, 8oz pour
A bright orange body with a fluffy nearly two finger off-white cap. Great retention, head never fully disappeared and clung to the sides of the glass, leaving some small sheets of lacing.
Bright grapefruit leaps into the air with some pine needles and star anise in tow. The hops are really the showcase here, yet never overwhelm. Balanced yet unbalanced.
Hops up front, bringing tropical fruits to forefront. Papaya, mango, and grapefruit with a touch of pale malt through the middle. Some star anise pokes through on top of a mild fruity bitterness.
Smooth medium body, carbonation is right on point. Finish is mildly bitter complimented by a licorice flavor from the star anise.
This is a well-crafted beer. All of the flavors are in a perfect balance yet still bold and flavorful.

Growler courtesy of drabmuh. Served in Tired Hands stemware. Nice pine and fruit. Small anise. Dry. Quite bitter. Light-medium body. Love the Simcoe. Really refreshing and easy to drink. Big winner from Jean and the folks at 't Gaverhopke. I enjoyed the small bit of anise, but was glad it wasn't much heavier.

On tap at Tired Hands.
Light orange body; a finger of slowly settling off-white head; nice sheets of sticky, creamy-looking lacing on the glass. Aroma is floral, citrusy, pine resin; very restrained malt sweetness barely peeking out underneath. West Coast single IPA vibe here. Vividly hoppy and nuanced.
The taste follows the nose; there’s a trace of bready malt and low sweetness lurking about underneath, but it’s simply a backbone propping things up and doesn’t muddle over the hop subtleties. The finish is dry and there’s a nicely lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Lots of citrus fruits, pine and resinous notes; floral aspects emerging. I believe this was brewed with a hint of star anise but it’s pretty damned subtle if it’s in there; I couldn’t detect anything more than a light and very general spiciness but none of the tell-tale black licorice flavor of the anise. Which I was thankful for, because it’s not a flavor I’m a big fan of!
Medium body and carbonation, very smooth and creamy. My favorite hoppy offering during this visit, where I compared this to Hop-A-Tact (much more in your face and bitter) and Hellcurse (Belgian saison/IPA hybrid). All three were nice but this was a prototypical contemporary IPA for me: vividly hoppy, super fresh, unmuddled by malt, addictively drinkable.

On tap at the brewpub on 7/25/12. Served in 4oz pour.
Pour: A slightly hazy orange with a egg shell white head.
Smell: Nice grapefruit burst, followed with some subdued pine. A little bit of honey sweetness is in there
Taste: Really follows the nose with grapefruit being the predominant flavor> Some bitter pine> Malt is caramelly and sweet.
Mouthfeel: Smooth medium body with a lingering bitter finish.
Overall: Solid IPA, and I'm kind of happy the anise didn't really come through. Would recommend.

On Tap at Tired Hands
A Long Way goes in the glass an orange color with some bright bronze within. A nice steady stream of bubbles rising creating a dense white cap with semi stick. Smell is over run with floral and citrus scents with a touch of star anise, which does not detract from the IPA scents. A trace of pale malt in the back as well. I get a ton of orange in the scent. Taste is superb. A nice highly hopped up beer that is semi bitter with something else (Star Anise) going for it. I get floral appeal with orange, papaya, some grass and not a ton of malt. Better than most east coast IPA's IMO since this is small batch and fresh as balls. Feel is in between light and medium with some crisp carb going for it. I could not drink a ton of this but 16oz is not impossible.

Growler shared by drabmuh. Thanks Matt.
The beer is light orange with a half inch of white head. The aroma offers light spice, citrus, melon, grass. Nice flavor. Definitely hop forward but not overwhelming or particularly aggressive. More of a smooth operator. The bitterness is mellow. Light to moderate carbonation. Lingering spice and citrus. Dangerously drinkable.
