4oz taster pour at the brewpub on 5/9/13
A: Pours fairly dark brown with reddish hues. Thinner than I was expecting. Light tan head that hangs out for a while. Sheets of lacing are left on the glass.
S: Pine earth and some chocolate and roasted malt. Not getting quite as much "dank citrus" as I was expecting.
T: Taste follows the nose here. Initially you get some of that pine, and earthy hop bitterness. Then that meshes with some creamy chocolate and slightly roasted malts. Again, thinner in the body than others in the style. Seems to be lacking a little bit.
M: Medium bodied. Thinner than some bipa

32 oz. growler poured into a Teku snifter.
Appearance - Murky brown. Not much of a head. What it has it retains well.
Smell - Smells like a brown ale. Well hopped. Grapefruit hops. A little bit of roast.
Taste - Grapefruit hops. Nutty. Chocolatey. Even coffee. Much more like a brown ale. Light bitterness. A little bit acrid.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied. Burnt bitterness. Medium carbonation.
Overall - Well made but not a very impressive black IPA. Just meh.
