This boisterous, fiery red Ginger is kicking back! We’ve released a rich and strong IPA to delight palates with Extra Delicious flavour. This is a one-of-a-kind beer that combines refreshing ginger taste with a flavourful hop finish. A brilliant amber hue is appealingly capped with a crisp white head, with a fine balance of malt and fresh ginger flavour. Great on its own, or with spicy food. Just keep an eye on it in the sun

Can: Poured a clear ember color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of caramel malt with light citrusy hops notes is OK. Taste is a mix of caramel malt with some hoppy citrusy notes and light ginger notes. Body is full enough for style with good carbonation. Not fond of the caramel malt backbone and I though ginger didn’t come out as much as I was expecting.

473 mL shrink-wrapped can, which means it is probably from the first retail batch. Best before Oct 2015, and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clouded copper-amber colour, generating one finger of creamy, off-white froth that dissipates relatively rapidly. A bubbly, soapy film remains on the surface, in addition to a thin collar, and a continuous ring of lace left clinging to the glass. The ginger is immediately evident on the nose, which has a sweet, somewhat biscuity gingersnap feel to it. Mildly spicy, too - obviously courtesy of the ginger, with minor contributions from the Saaz hops - as well as some floral, grassy notes. The aroma vaguely reminds me of Crabbie's, though with more malt and hop presence.

This is a decent ginger beer, but the 'red IPA' part is a stretch. Ginger is a constant background presence throughout the sip, though it becomes most noticeable toward the finish. Bready malts and some toffee sweetness come through initially, soon giving way to an earthy, grassy bitterness. The hops prove to be no match for the spicy gingersnap flavour that takes over the finish, leaving a wisp of spicy heat behind on the palate that survives briefly into the aftertaste. Medium-bodied, with light carbonation levels that result in a smooth, but rather limp mouthfeel. Despite the sturdy abv and spicy flavour, this brew actually goes down quite effortlessly.

Final Grade: 3.7, a B grade. Taken as a spiced beer, Revenge of the Ginger is actually a pretty solid product - but if you bought this because of the "IPA" part of its name, you might be a bit disappointed - the hops come off as tertiary, in relation to the spice and malt. As a ginger beer fan, I find this to be a very easy beer to enjoy - and while it could probably use a few tweaks, I'd still say it's worth a try as-is. A worthy summer seasonal that I plan to return to on occasion, and one of the better domestic ginger beers you'll be able to find at the LCBO.

473 ml shrink wrap covered can served cold into a pint glass. Purchased from LCBO for $3 CDN.

Appearance - hazy dark red color with some honey brown colouring too. Nice finger or so of off white head is poured and some spidery lacing is left behind. A good start.

Smell - subtle ginger aroma, some candi sugar maybe some caramel notes. Not strong but not subtle with the aromatics either.

Taste - ginger maybe some mint then some leafy hops come in to finish things off. Moderate bitterness, but definitely on the bitter end as far as spiced beers go.

Mouthfeel - smooth but relatively full bodied and gassy. Good carbonation and slight drying sensation on the conclusion.

Overall - a very solid ginger beer, probably the only one I've tried that I would go back to. Decent price too. As far as being an IPA, I suppose the hop bitterness can get it there. It firstly and secondly this is a spiced beer. A good one and worth arty.

Perhaps a little on the spicy side, flavour is good (unique), but borders on overwhelming if you aren't expecting it.

Definitely worth a try. A bit of spice from the ginger with some mid-level hops bitterness.

Poured into a tulip glass from a 473ml can. ok, this one is nuts. decent collar that lasts well. Complex and cheeky nose here. Ginger dominates like a Canada Dry ginger ale. Downright bizarre but it worked for me. If you hate gineger however, you will hate this one. also hints of chocolate btw. decent taste that lasts well throughout. ginger prescence gor sure but not overwhelming. really decent feel too throughout. Therefore, a decent find.

I thought the ginger was just a reference to the colour. Sadly, I was mistaken, which is too bad as I don't like the taste of ginger. Thus, my rating is prejudiced.
Otherwise, the texture, head and almost all other aspects are good. But it's still ginger...and has nothing whatsoever to do with IPA.
