i found this pretty uninteresting for trve, who continue to boggle my mind with the quality and uniqueness of their sours. this is a collaboration with the once (i think) defunct black fox brewing (i think?). not sure who did what, but this comes across as a very pale session saison, maybe a hit of brett in the nose, but the taste is very mild, wheat heavy, and finishing clean and quite tame. oft and creamy feel and enormous carbonation levels give it a real lifted feeling. i have come to expect something unexpected from these guys, and while this is excellent saison, its a bit mellow by their standards, and certainly by the standards of the prices i am hearing people paid for it. soft as a cloud in the mouth, dry and wheaty, a touch of funk to the yeasts, very refreshing. trve is fast becoming one of the best in denver, and maybe beyond. this is maybe not the best example of their ingenuity, but the quality shines through just as well. if it was a cheap pint they would sell out of it constantly, at this rate, it may be around a little longer if you are keen.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a murky golden-yellow with a foamy off-white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour with malt, grain, funk, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with sweet malt, fruit, funk, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has a sour quality in the smell but not in the taste.

Pours a hazy pale orange with a nice foamy white head, with nice retention and lacing on the sides of the glass. Not a wheat fan and a quick whiff tells me they use more wheat malt in this than I care for, but enough going on outside of that to keep my interest. Wheat, grains (definitely getting some oats in this one) fruity esters and spice from the yeast. Wish they could have used something other than wheat malt here, but decent enough aroma fro what it is. Just not my preference. Wheat is the first thing that hits my taste buds but then the grains kick in, the sugar from the oats really providing some sweetness to this, and the fruity esters and spice from the yeast also showing up, and a nice grassiness in the finish. Again good, but the wheat base really runs counter to my preferences. A nice creamy, crisp and active mouthfeel. Overall, good beer but not my favorite from TRVE given my dislike of wheat. Wish this would have been available on tap when I was at the brewery, had I tried it I wouldn't have spent the $16 for this bottle.
