trve is amazing, one of the very best in colorado for sure, and their sour stuff is almost all incredible. it comes as no surprise that the base beer for this is excellent, moderately acidic, clean, and interesting, with light funk and natural citrus notes to the cultures. the grapefruit is a fine addition, it really picks up on the tart lemony lacto, and brings out a lot of the sharpness and minerality, its very well dosed here, forward but not turning it into juice. for me the little letdown is the relative lack of the beet component compared to the grapefruit. its earthy sure, i think the stage is set for a lot more of it though, like the base beer with the grapefruit are begging for the dirty dense woody vegetal balance the beet should bring, but it was cautiously proportioned in here, and it being more robust would almost assuredly make this a more interesting and better beer, but maybe thats just personal preference, i love beets, and think this is a perfect beer for them. that said, the beer is delicious, light, dry, and refreshing, and the beets add more than a pink hue, they have a nice little bit of flavor too. fn stuff, i hope they keep playing around with this kind of thing, and consider a bigger beet spike on the next batch...

Bottle picked up in the brewery taproom. Golden sour brewed with beets and grapefruit.
Pours a hazy, bubbly bright gold. No head retention, but a very nice color.
Smells like a funky grapefruit. Very bright.
Lots of grapefruit juice up front, grapefruit pith going down. Gets bitter as it sits. Some earthy beet-like notes.
