farmhouse ale aged with spruce, which i wanted to be way more pronounced in here, and which i thought were available for a spring release not a fall one, but what do i know. its glowing orange and a little hazy in the glass, frothy white headed but a little paler than i expected it to be for a fall beer. aroma has some dried orange or something to it, a juniper note, and then the spruce. i am usually pretty good with spruce, and when i ordered it, i didnt know it was an ingredient. when i tasted it, i could not have necessarily placed it, i mean, fresh botanical character for sure, even a little medicinal, but spruce specifically, im not sure i would have gotten it. i get citrus more than pine, this might be well hopped or the light malt sweetness might be throwing me off. either way it doesnt matter because the beer is delicious, but like maple syrup, spruce is an ingredient i almost always want more of no matter how much is there, and thats the case again here. i like the nutty grain base, mild and tame and even on the drier side, but it adds a lot still. cool yeast, not as funky as a lot of the trve stuff has been lately, but belgiany, rustic, and compatible with all the other factors. cold and creamy and bubbly and dry, richer than it seems like it should be at this strength and drinkability, and a really cool finish with the spruce, the citrus note, the earthy grain, and the yeast. its all here. fun beer, another good one from these guys, but i could take more spruce in it...
