L:. Pours a dark black brown with a tan head and no lacing on the glass.
S: A strong smoke and notes of juniper and berry, not a super strong aroma. Doesn't quite catch my attention.
T:. Lots of smoked meat, notes of berry and juniper, some sweetness. It's ok but I feel like it's missing something.
F:. Slick mouth feel, feels undercarbonated.
O:. This beer misses the mark for me, I think it is the kveik yeast, it's not horrible, but I'm not really wanting to have it again.

a dark kveik yeast saison type done with juniper, another cool new one from these guys, who seem to be covering more ground than ever lately. this one is off dry, a touch sweeter than has become their norm, and without the wild mixed fermentation funky character, but they also seem to be using this polarizing yeast better than a lot of others, its understated here rather than a driver, and the juniper is mellow too, a drinkable winter brew results, high end in terms of quality and very distinct, but unlike most others in their recent run of crazy stuff. i am very thankful to have ran into this one at the brewery last weekend. looks like a brown ale in the glass, smells a little like wintergreen, cola, and cooked sugar, sarsaparilla, and licorice, but its not all that spicy, its just earthy and layered. the juniper does give it pine and gin elements, but its laid back through the whole thing, and only adds enough herbal bitterness for this to seem very balanced to me. i love the weirdness, the complexity even without much of the usual trve fermentation stuff. this seems like a cool application of this kveik yeast, which i dont always love, but it works great here. i think this is a really neat col weather saison type, on the same high quality level as all their beers right now. delicious.
