Bottle from Kelly and Paul, Thanks
Slightly hazy dark brown with faint ruby at the edges and about a half a glass of foam even with a gentle pour. Cocoa and caramel with light clove and pepper in the nose. Slightly ashy chocolate and caramel with light bits of earthy fruity clove to round it out. Not anything thats horribly complex and the body does seem a bit full for a Saison, but its pretty damn easy to drink!

Dark fruits of grape and plum in the entry. Faint, sweet under toned malt. Thin, crisp middle. Slight amount of funk. I wish there was more funk, just not enough. Of the funk that's there it's quite restrained. Vague spice about three quarter palate. No hops detected. As the beer warms, it takes on a bit of creaminess and stone fruit. Ash in the finish lingers on the palate. I kept wanting to like this beer. I kind of do. I like the saison aspect of this beer. The dark component reminds me of coffee grounds dumped in to a saison; disjointed. I think if there was a little light crystal malt added it would do wonders to balance out this beer. Saison is my favorite style. This is a decent variation within the style. This beer has the potential to be great with a few tweaks IMHO.

Almost pitch black with frothy off white head. Much darker than a typical saison, looks almost like a porter or stout.
Sweet aroma of candied dark fruit, molasses and toasted malt. Some hints of chocolate as well.
Nice blend of ripe dark fruit, like plums and cherries, and carmel. Has a pronounced toasted malt character, that I'm not sure is typical of the style. Hoppy finish.
Light to medium bodied with active carbonation
This is a unique take on a saison, but a rather underwhelming brew. Certainly nothing a offensive, but nothing particularly interesting either.

This beer pours very dark for a Saison with a light beige colored frothy head. Aroma is surely sweet, yet slightly sour funkiness. Taste is chocolate, slight cherry and raisin with distinct sourness, but does not overwhelm.
I taste a slight metallic sourness which is a bit off-putting, but, overall, I enjoy drinking this dark Saison. Very unique and warm, and I believe I would enjoy this more in a bit cooler weather.

Pours black; delicious taste that I expect from Relic's saisons. Roasted chocolate notes make this perfect for winter- yum!
