18 June 2020 - Beer #123
Corona Day #98
Price: $16.99 on Tavour
Appearance: 3 - dark, but a tad thin on the pour. And why are there floaties?! Eww!
Nose: 4 - nice but not overpowering. Some roast, mild barrel.
Taste: 4 - very tasty imperial stout. Good amount of roast. Only a little barrel presence, a bit of tang from the rum.
Mouth: 5 - well done. Much thicker than it appears, plenty of tongue action.
Overall: 4 - a very pleasant imperial stout. For the price I expected more, and I prefer more barrel, but certainly pleasant.
Cheers!

Poured into a 10oz. snifter from the 2018 bottling.
Look - Dark stout with a thin tan head and very little lacing.
Smell - The aroma was very roasty with hints of smoke. The booze was strong, but almost more like a scotch because of the smokiness.
Taste - The roasty/smokey quality was the most prevalent with subtle chocolate. The rum was more apparent in taste. Lacking in complexity.
Feel - Nothing really special in the feel. It was relatively thin, but not unpleasant.
Overall - This was a fine stout, but missing some of the complexity of other barrel-aged offerings. I wanted a bit more depth of flavor. The smokey quality was the highlight for me.

An Excellent rum barrelling. Very smooth, particularly in comparison to the boozy XO rye. Good sipper, something to enjoy for hours. Thanks, Jason B.

Coal-black body topped with a thick, dense, light brown head. Rich, roasted and charred grain scent with notes of cocoa. Roasted grain flavor with some subtle sweetness and light element of rum sweetness and booziness. Heavy body; thick and oily with some alcohol warmth offset with some deeply luscious sweetness.
A fine imperial stout, thick and rich with balanced flavors and some refreshingly subtle rum presence from the barrel-aging.

375ml bottle served in a tulip. Vintage 2018, release number 1. 150 cases bottled, according to the label.
Pours black with a dark brown head. Head fades pretty fast, leaving a brown ring. Not a lot of carbonation. Smell is roasty, chocolatey, and boozy.
Taste is super boozy. Tastes like rum with an espresso shot in it.
Mouthfeel is thick and oily. Overall...it's not a terrible beer, but it's not very good.
