Lighter black pour with a mushroom colored collar. Smell and taste make up one of the most barrel forward stouts I have had in quite some time, yet not hot with booze thankfully. Smell has char, dark fruit and dark chocolate to go with the barrels. Taste has molasses, dried dark fruit, light char, leather, thick earth, roasted malt, and a finishing second wave of booze that makes me think I am drinking whiskey straight for a second without the heat. Feel is barrel character to the max, the oak and booze just shape the whole experience along with sturdy malts. I wish I would have let this age, think the results would have been stellar

Pours an effervescent ebony with fast falling caramel colored head. Viscous, traces of lacing
S: Plums, leafy hops & Whiskey, figs once warm. Vanilla & caramel once warm, plus plenty of booze presence
T: Follows the nose, peatyness, some woodyness & vaniilla up front. More peatyness as this warms, carob, leafy hops & just a little toffee as well. Finishes with plenty of barrel, some cola flavor, a little vanilla & peat
MF: Medium body, fairly restrained carbonation, warming
Solid BA RIS, glad i picked it up

Appearance: Pours espresso colored with a one finger head; a few shards of lacing
Smell: Tart dark fruit along with Rye Whiskey tones
Taste: Just a touch of roast and chocolate before that tart dark fruit flavors take over; Rye Whiskey barrel flavors build in the middle and dominate the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: I have had a number of misses from this brewery (and a few hits) but this one is a miss; somewhere in this beer there is an Imperial Stout fighting to emerge but I could barely find it

Another solid stout from River North, delivering a superior treatment of whiskey barrel aging to produce an elegant Russian imperial stout... Notes of cocoa, espresso, and wood, all infused with whiskey vapors... Bittersweet, medium-bodied, and smooth... Classy...

This thick beer pours into the glass pitch black and smells like sweet bourbon and bitter chocolate. It tastes more like dark chocolate, though there are light notes of bourbon, oak and rhubarb. It is a thick beer that still leaves as clean a finish as one could ask for.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a speiglau BA glass.
Look is a deep opaque black with a sliver of cafe au lait head.
Aroma is roast malt and whiskey vanilla.
Taste is a perfect blend of sweet whiskey and roasted imperial malt.
