on the menu they called this a cherry grisette, which, i really dont think it is. table saison maybe, but it doesnt seem to have all the grain layers or yeast character i look for in a true grisette. its a little more one dimensional than that in terms of its malt complexion, but its pretty good beer despite the misnomer. the cherry element is well done here, its authentic and dry, and it doesnt turn it immediately into a fruit beer. all of the cherry flavor ends up past the middle point in the taste, allowing the wheaty grain base a chance to get off and running first. the cherry is sort of jammy, black cherry sort of taste, but it doesnt take over the way it sounds like it would in such a light beer. good show of restraint. it gets a little muddled in the finish, hard to place the yeast, fruity for a second, almost belgian, but it might just be the cherry. i wish it to have a little more carbonation, it sags just a little there, but this is a rather inventive and well executed brew for the most part. easy to put them down pint after pint.
