Black in color with an inch of densely packed creamy brown on top. Just a touch of light seeps through when held up to light. Heavy lacing. The aroma is of pine and a touch of wood smoke. I’m tasting just a light amount of pine, smoke, and roasted malt. The mouth is is creamy with just a hint of chalkiness.

Taste: smokey piney dry hops, roasted malts, earthy semi bitter notes. Same with the nose. Very dark brown, mostly clear, tan head with a broken ringed lace. Medium/full body. 62 IBUs

On tap at the brewpub, served in a nonic pint.
Black body with a tan collar of foam that settles, initial fingers width of creamy foam at first. A light ruby highlight that glints in the light.
Aroma is pretty light, but it could be that the pint was served too cold, though it didn't feel overly cold. Some mild roast and buttery toffee, slight grassy hops.
Tasted slightly buttery, some mild roast and a very smooth feel, seemed more like a porter with very mild roast malt characteristics. Body was medium with light carb, pretty drinkable overall, and no hint of the nearly 9% abv. Damn. Sucker punch that drinks more like a 5% porter.
9/2012 growler: no diacetyl, lasting piney bitterness. Clean roast and bakers chocolate flavors. Pretty solid rendition.
