22oz bottle pick up at the brewery. $12. No bottling date. Served in a Burnt Hickory snifter.
Pours a vibrant but hazey deep red orange with just over a finger of pale pink froth. As with most variations of this beer, the head eventually fades completely, leaving neither retention nor lace.
Smells of soured grain, earhty hay, nearly expired compost and just a hint of citrus. Mich more subtle fruit than I expected.
The flavor is straight forward but pleasant. Sour mash and orange juice with some interesting funky, earthy overtones.
The body is that familiar mildly chalky, light feel with softly fizzling carbonation. The finish is a generous display of soured orange juice.
While I'll admit to not being the biggest fan of the base General Joes Quickstep, these fruited variants are damned tasty. Johnny Hot And Run Pauline is no exception. It seems more straight up orange than blood orange but goes down quite easily.
