Labelled a Carrot Cake Belgian Dubbel, a collaboration between Burnt Hickory Brewing and the Anderson Brothers.
Appearance: Presents a deeply hued amber-brown body with a smallish, near white head.
Smell: A sweetish sniff of spice-infused dark syrup atop bready, toasted maltiness. Fruity aromas of well-ripened plums, a little green banana. Then, caramelized carrots, along with a renewed sense of brown sugar and mingled spices closes out the bouquet.
Taste: A fair amount of initial sweetness, with both cooked caramel, faint chocolate, and dark syrups only acquired through fancy-pants shops (online, most likely). Some underlying toasty, bready malts, sure, but, by this time, the other, more prominent flavors are taking hold and gathering their flavorful forces. Varying spices, not only from the additives, but presumably phenols from the yeast enter the picture. A jab of plum, then, banana, even bubblegum, but also the carrots so rich in vitamin A puncture the palate. The spiciness and alcohol slowly turn the dial away from the 'sweet' setting, allowing for a spicy, fruity finish with a lingering of alcoholic warmth and a bit of 'hot' ginger spiciness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Smooth but nearingly sticky at times.
Overall: BHB, I hope you don't mind if I continue to be a quick-tempered, harsh-minded pest - it's what I do, fellas - but, know well, in the back of your brewing minds, that few local beers have given me the level of enjoyment this beer has. I thank you, sirs.
