Appearance: Pours a turgid straw that never settles. Muddy and murky, but it's all good. Head is off-white and fluffy, but recedes rather quickly leaving a tiny bubbly collar. Some nice notches and streaks of lacing, but it's not glass coating. Moderate carbonation on the pour.
Smell: Tropical. More in the mango and papaya vein. Deep fruity aromas. Malts run light and a touch bready with a mild sweetness. Some backing pine needle and a touch of grapefruit give the hops a nice depth. A touch of grass with a clean, but noticeable yeast presence. A mild touch of earth runs through the back coupled with a minor floral and herbal element. Some peach buried in there as well. Malts run as a nice compliment but let the hops shine through.
Taste: A bitter pithy finish on a big tropical sip. Mango jumps out with some backing papaya and peach. Pithy bitterness on the finish of each sip that builds on subsequent sips. A bit of pine needle and tangerine as well. Malts add a touch of sweetness and a mild bready element, almost undercooked. Some kind of mealy tropical fruit that I can't place...guava maybe? Really fruity without the associated sweetness. Hops shine with a nice bitter edge, but sip fruity. A bit muddled through the middle, but it sits nice on either side. Warming pushes most of the tropical flavors in to a hop smoothie and lets the malt out a bit more adding some cracker and lightly toasted bread.
Mouthfeel: Medium body leaning to the lighter side . Carbonation is on point. A touch of astringency with a juicy initial sip and a lingering dry, but not overly so, finish.
Overall: Better than the Amesbury police.
A solid drinking IPA. It's not going to blow your mind, but the solid tropical notes, without being too sweet, really give it a unique character. Cleared a 32oz growler in no time.
