If there were a scale of descriptive words, this one would rank as a "meh" for me. It was not great, but not bad. It hit all the notes that a traditional American Stout should have, but fell pretty flat.

16 oz. Can dated 11/18/15 poured into a tulip.

Pours jet black in color with a finger of fairly dense dark tan/light brown head; decent head retention at first but it slowly settles to a light coating leaving moderate lacing. Moderate roasted malt aromas with a touch dark and bitter chocolate. Taste is lots of roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate and some smoke. There is a bit of malty/chocolatey sweetness that lingers with some smokiness in the finish. The beer is medium-light in body with moderate carbonation. I found this to be a bit sweet and thin in body. Overall a good beer; a moderate amount of nuance, not extraordinary but still solid and enjoyable.

Pours opaque, dark brown in color, with 1/3 inch head. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and light smokiness. Above average roasty stout. I have others I prefer from the brewery, but this one is decent.

Can dated 11/18/15; drank on 12/6/15 in a tulip glass; this beer has a very strong smokiness that dominates the beer; as a fan of smoke beers, I think it works very well; also, the aroma of this stout really stood out to me in a way that this style generally does not present

UPDATE: drank again on 12/13/15; I cannot find this info anywhere but does this beer have chili peppers in it? Perhaps even smoked chilis? If not, it seems to give out a faint smoky heat right at the end.

Poured on tap at the brewery.

Pours a dark, dark brown color with a fluffy khaki head. Not much lacing to be found.

The aroma is very roasty, with notes of coffee and burnt dark chocolate.

Something was a bit off about the taste for me. It was a bit too smokey and bitter for my liking. Had a very charred, bitter aftertaste that didn't sit well with me.

The feel was medium bodied and smooth. Not much else there.

Overall, an OK stout. Would have loved to bring a few cans home to give a proper review but decided against it. This beer just seemed far too charred and smokey for my liking. Not as much sweetness as I would prefer in a stout.

A completely solid stout. No bells and whistles or adjuncts. For the style, this one had a great mouthfeel and roast/malty character. A great go-to fridge stout.
