Canned 6/17/20
And we’re back to this series. There’s usually some pretty nice surprises lying in their single hop beers. This will also be a nice break from all of the NEIPAs I’ve been having from my case of Tree House, which are fantastic, but my palate is fatigued and I’m craving something classic
Pours a mostly cloudy golden yellow with 2 fingers of frothy white head that slowly recedes to a cap and leaves rings of lacing
There’s a nice juxtaposition in the aroma of tropical fruits and dank resiny hops. I get lots of apricot and pineapple, but also fresh cut pine. A dry biscuity malt rounds out the aroma
The sip starts off with bright tropical fruits like tart pineapple and mango, veering this more towards a NEIPA (which this series has a tendency to do sometimes but to varying degrees). After the swallow however, we are reminded that we’re drinking something heavily inspired by the west coast, with weedy dank hops and just a touch of honey and malt
The body almost feels too light here and there’s almost no carbonation at all, leading this to be a little hard to drink down at points. Finishes mostly watery
This one was pretty good all things considered. The mouthfeel could certainly be improved but it’s no big deal

Quite interesting.
One hop beers can be excellent or odd.
This beer is weird.
I am a big fan of the brewery.
I greatly enjoy most of their beers, except for the One Hop Ella.
Excellent pour with a 4F head, light golden color
Quite earthy, and dank. That’s the primary flavor.
Some citrus in the mix. Moderate hoppy finish.
Should you pass on this? If you are looking for a different beer taste, check it out.
I only like dank beers with Brett. If you are a dank beer fan, this is definitely for you.

Great extra from MCCarrigan, this was my first NE IPA and I was very pleased. I creamy mouth feel with a nice citrus taste and aroma. I may be slowly coming around to liking and enjoying IPAs.

Thanks Kevin for the gifted can. Nice to see some Topaz single hop brews around instead of the usual hops.
A- The tall can drops a very cloudy, very pale yellow brew into my tulip. The head is white, rather thick and frothy rising up to just over an inch high with good retention. Eventually a massive pillow remains on the brew and lacing follows it down the glass in huge patches.
S- Musty (semi-cat pee; but not too much) dankness joins forces with bright and fresh citrus fruit hops which do not contact any malt aromas to give off that candied feel; shines. Tangerine, grapefruit, clementine, pineapple and floral hops create most of the moderately strong aroma.
T- The musty dank herbal feeling carries over from the aroma and is central to the entire flavor profile which once again is dominated by the Topaz excluding yeast and malts besides slight cereal grains and bread. Juicy melon, tangerine, ruby red grapefruit sharpness, orange, pineapple, floral and spicy hops. That melon grows and grows with time.
MF- Puffy and creamy consistency leads to some chewy feelings on the palate. Carbonation is rather high but the beer sips very smoothly and comes off as crisp. Finishes with a medium citrus pith bitterness.
Well, add Topaz to my hop schedule for my single hop homebrews. A profile driven by dankness with a boatload of citrus and then some sweet melon to balance it all out.

Exceptional display of a single hop. Very light golden straw color, opaque. Not the strongest aroma of hops, but the presence of clean west coast hops is undeniable in the aroma. Flavor is super clean with a persistent hop bitterness which seems to draw on dried lemon rind and peppery dank. All of these flavors intermingle to create a great balance of bitterness and hop character. Very smooth body as well.
