From a 16 oi can dated 05/08/20. Sampled July 5, 2020.

Yellow heady pour. Moderate clarity.

The aroma emits some floral and fruity hops but little else. It just does not blow me away. But it is two months old.

Light bodied beer.

The taste tends to lean bready and less hoppy. There is a fruity note in the taste but it does not blow me away. Generally, this beer does not blow me away. Pretty boring. I must say,.

After a lot of hype and anticipation surrounding this rotating American IPA, I’m not going to lie and say that there wasn’t some anxious motivation to like it as I awaited her release in New Hampshire for a few weeks. When Judgement Day arrived, there whispered a faint nervousness amidst a cooler June evening — no one wants to be disappointed —, but when I cracked her can and decanted the ale into this wonderful Boston glass, emerged did a creamed and golden reassurance that everything was going to be okay — cold refreshing Ella, frosting the humid streets of Boston. Refined lemon and lime mingle with the single firm, crispy, atypical Ella hop that makes a very tasty and slammable IPA; 6.8 ABV being just enough gas on the pedal. Nightshift also really nailed this rotation drop; Spring/Summer is really the perfect time for Ella, who dares tropical, west coast vibes but is unequivocally New England.

Nice pour: golden color with a 2F head in a Spielgelau IPA.
Aroma: fragrant citrus, floral.
Medium body.
The taste is different- interesting, but not my favorite. Lots of citrus- almost weird, but worth trying out.
I’ve had a lot of beers with Ella as a combo hop, never a single hop.
Perhaps it is best as a combo hop- unlike Galaxy, Citra, and Simcoe which can hold their own as single hop beers.

Ella hops? Not sure I've even heard of these before, nevermind actually having them. Going in without any expectations

Pours a cloudy pale gold with 1.5 fingers of soapy white head that fades fast and leaves rings of lacing

Quite a bit of citrus on the nose, fresh sliced lemon and lime supported by doughy breadiness and tropical fruits like pineapple and mango

Straight away, this is very lemony, almost getting into tart territory but not quite. Mid palate switches things up with a moderate malt character that is quickly washed away by surprisingly bitter hops. There's some peppery spice in the aftertaste which is occasionally a bit much but isn't that bad

The feel here is quite light with light carbonation, finishes just off dry and bitter

This was even better than I had expected! I was anticipating something more juicy and hazy but I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by west coast tendencies with heavy fruit and hops. Good stuff, one of my favorite single hops from them

A: The beer is rather hazy yellow in color but seems to have a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that quickly settled down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface, a narrow ring around the end, and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of star fruit and spices are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has stronger flavors of star fruit with hints of floral hops and spices. There is a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied and a bit crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found this IPA to be quite enjoyable, particularly since it was a single hop beer brewed from an uncommon hop variety.

16oz can dated 12/1/17.

Pours cloudy gold with a pillow head of white. Nice retention and lacing. Mild hop notes of peach, melon, and grapefruit in the nose. Medium bodied with a creamy, fluffy mouthfeel. Pithy and dry on the palate with a slightly coarse bitterness. Grapefruit pith with bitter pine and zero malt. Finishes with a coarse, hollow bitterness and citrus pith.

A bit rough and bitter with a nose that lacks.

Pours a very cloudy muted gold colir with a one finger soapy head that settles to a film quickly with not much lacing.

Aroma is surprisingly sweet with solid orange tones, maybe a little grapefruit behind it.

Taste is more tart up front with grapefruit and lemon rind notes while the orange lingers far in the background, coming through in the finish only. Very light malt and bitterness is fairly low. Makes for a very crisp beer.

Feel is soft and clean with no stickiness.

This is a crisp and refreshing beer with a very pleasant flavor profile. Loving it!

Pint can. 11/30/17. Opened on 12/11/17

A hazy straw gold color. Thick and rocky white foam cover. Holds up well. Big lace.

The Ella hop aroma is rather extraordinary, sweet tropical fruits, pineapple, pear, apples and cream. Very juicy, slight citrus and wicked tropical. Not much eathiness or green notes to be detected.

Oh my! What an excellent hop flavor. A very complex hop effect that includes: dry, herbal earthiness ( unlike the nose) rustic citrus, earthy grains and sour fruits. The malt rides right along side with a dry, herbal bite, wheat and crystal style malt. Soft tropical fruits like, honeydew mellon and starfruit keep it interesting. Grainy, slightly earthy fruity effect overall.

The mouthfeel starts out with a nice, crisp, grainy malt kick. Juicy in the middle with a slightly smooth, then dry finish. Complex body.

Overall, a very impressive and complex hop strain, well executed with a bold and sweet fruity aroma. Much more well rounded and complex flavor that includes serious earthiness. This one covers alot of ground.

Picked-up a single at Craft Beer Cellar in Plymouth for four dollars and twenty five cents. Not too familiar with this type of hop, but not a big fan. Dank, with a strange aroma, would not buy again.

Pours a huge fluffy head that fades slowly with big sticky soapy lacing, murky pear color

Nose is dank and lemony, tropical, floral, super lemony, lime and lemonade, passion fruit, little pineapple and citrus

Taste little cereal grainy malt, little biscuit wheat, into big hops, lemony, little musty, passion fruit, grapefruit, lemony, little spicy, green grassy and musty vinous white grape, interesting spiciness. Fair bitterness, drier spicy hop finish

Mouth is med bod, fluffy carb, creamy too

Overall a nice beer, good representation of Ella hops, nice base beer.

Poured from a can. Canned 3/1/17, so it's three months old...

Looks a solid opaque with a thin white head lingering.
Smell is not super strong (probably was more when fresh), but it's nice, light, floral and a bit spicy.
Taste is more prominent on the hop with earthy, spicy notes, a little pine resin but almost noble-hop type of feel. Some good bready biscuit malt undertones.
Feels pretty good, smooth at first and balanced toward the hop flavors but with a prickly bitterness and a bit of crisp malt to finish.

Overall, a tasty beer. I think it's my first time with Ella hops. I imagine they would make a very nice saison or pilsner -
maybe not my favorite for an IPA, but this beer showcases it well.

A:
Pours a very cloudy pale white gold with an incredibly creamy bone white head that starts as the top third of my glass and ends as a healthy film. Great retention; concentric arcs/streaks of lacing. (4.5)

S:
Floral and woodsy with some hoppy sweetness and faint Nilla Wafers malt. (4)

T:
Pollen dust and fairy dust coating your mouth on the backs of tiny bubbles. Stone fruit, Nilla Wafers, wilted herbs, weed, red fruits, pine pollen. (4.25)

M:
Medium body that feels like a kitten tongue, dry bitterness and a soft, easy finish. (4.5)

O:
Very nice single hop IPA with a relatively unusual hop (at least in my experience).
It looks great. The smell is dusty hop bitterness and faintly, cleanly sweet malt. The flavor follows suit with a little stone fruit and the same half woodsy-half fruity hoppiness. It drinks great with tingly-yet-fizzy carbonation.
Very nice. I had high hopes for these guys' beer and I'm not disappointed. (4.25)

Pours a hazy straw color with about a finger of fluffy white head. Nose is tart citrus and dank herbs. Taste is lemon and lime citrus and peel with grassy and herbal finish. I'm not familiar with Ella hops at all - first time I think I've ever had them in a beer. Good first impression in this beer. Body has a somewhat light feel but that could partly be from the spritzy lemon lime flavors, also.

Canned 03/02/17 - Poured into an English pub glass - FYI: All previous renditions of OHTT I've had were labeled as "{Hop Variety} {Date}" this one however was labeled as "Canned {Date} {Hop Variety}"

L - Pours a delightfully hazy, pale lemonade color. Minuscule head on a mildly aggressive pour that dissipates quickly leaving intermittent lacing as it goes down.

S - Slightly sour tropical fruit, pineapple, super faint bready malt. Not too much of a nose on this one.

T - Following the nose, lightly sour note followed by a hint of pineapple, great bitterness and a barely detectable bready malt backbone.

F - Pillowy medium body, great carbonation and finishes dry.

O - I love this beer, I'd buy a few cases if my old lady wouldn't have my head over it. I'd love to see this hop variety used in combination with something like a Galaxy or an El Dorado to see how it played into the flavor. Overall another great showing from Night Shift.

From a 16oz can, dated 03/02/17. Served in a nonic.

Pours a hazy, pale, straw-yellow with a big two-plus fingers of soft, whipped foam. Retention is excellent, leaving persistent gobs of sticky lacing. Looks very fine.

The nose is faint but, what there is of it, smells like sugar cookies and pineapple.

Taste is similar to the nose but with more bitter citrus than promised. Starts with sugar cookies, pineapple, lemon pith, grapefruit, lime and medicinal herbs. Finishes spicy and grassy with a light, hop-oily, briefly lingering bitterness.

Feel is just a whisker less than medium-bodied, brightly carbonated, clean and dry.

Overall, a right-tasty IPA, strongly reminiscent of Brick & Feather's Positively 11th Street - a meaningless comparison for the almost-everybody-else out there who has never had that. I know that Ella is one of them new-fangled Australian hop varietals but there is something, hmm, old-fashioned or nostalgically traditional or I-don't-know-I-can't-put-my-finger-on-it about the flavour profile here that I enjoyed the heck out of. Sort of a cross between a fine craft brew and that sip of my uncle's Schlitz I stole when I was ten and my mother wasn't looking.

On tap at the brewey.

Pours a hazy orange.

The smell is very tropical, with nice hints of lime and pine.

The taste is nice and resiny, loads of pine with a very well incorporated hop bite. The finish is long and floral.

Mouthfeel is soft and smooth, like most NE IPAs.

I thing this is the first beer I've had that was single hopped with Ella, and I liked it. Very balanced and easy on the palate.
