Canned 2/11/20
Another day, another new Night Shift beer. Seriously, these guys pump out so many different beers it's hard to believe they're mostly so good. This one clearly inspired by the current pandemic, first brewed last year and brought back now with a slightly tweaked formula, branded as a New England Pale Ale, curiously avoiding the NEIPA title. Let's see what it's all about
Pours a hazy pale gold with 2 fingers of soapy white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves nice lacing
This one smells vibrant and fresh, as I would expect for only being 2 weeks old. I'm picking up on aromas of white peach, pineapple, fresh cut pine, orange juice, creamy doughy malt, and some floral hops that lend a minor onion notes, which in this context is actually pleasant
The floral/onion type notes present in the nose did not translate as well into taste, but this is still juicy and balanced while remaining light. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting floral hops, tangy orange, light grapefruit pith, and bready malt. The swallow brings notes of white peach, floral hops, crackery malt, and an aftertaste of onion
What this lacks in flavor is more than made up for by an excellent drinkability. A light medium body pairs with very gentle carbonation, resulting in a beer that is both refreshing and chalky. Finishes completely dry with an odd bitterness
Overall I would say that this is held down by the aftertaste, but it doesn't completely ruin it. I could see myself drinking more of it
