They deem this an American-style Strong Ale. To my mind, it's a bizarre take on Double IPA. The malt base is outrageously sweet -- and it clashes disastrously with the excessive hops. It's almost as if they strove to create something unpleasant; I could barely choke it down.

I like Night Shift's "Awake" series of dark coffee ales, and some of their sours. This one, however, was the worst craft beer I've had in years.

A vigorous pour was needed to reach a finger of light-beige creamy and long lasting foam with a wide and sticky ring of lacing. Very hazy copper-light brown color, I can see my fingers, orange-red highlights.

Bready and sweet malts greet the nose, toasted malt and grain follow with faint hops and alcohol.

Big taste of malt, items from the smell are much bolder. Alcohol is peppery and a little astringent. Strong bitterness from hops (pine, citrus and herbal) and some added roasted malt, semi-sweet at first with a quick drying finish. The big malt taste lingers on with the alcohol and roasted character the last to leave.

Medium body with plenty of carbonation, not very smooth yet well balanced. Strong but not a sipper, true to style.

I'm obviously familiar with Night Shift, but I've never had anything from Crue Brew, despite them being just a half hour from me. This one has some pretty rough ratings so far but I'll have to see for myself

Pours a cloudy dark amber with a slight red glow and a finger of off white head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing

The aroma is dominated by resiny pine, subtle dark fruit, caramel malt, and a touch of molasses. Really not much going on here, and not that well balanced

I thought maybe 3 months would have faded the hops a bit, but they seem about as aggressive as Arrogant Bastard. Taste starts off with a nice raisiny sweetness to offset the pine and citrus, but the swallow washes out the palate with astringent hops and just a touch of orange marmalade for balance

A medium full body pairs with moderate carbonation for a surprisingly easy drinking beer given the flavor profile and the abv. Finishes mostly dry and bitter

I don't think this was as bad as others have made it out to be, but it wasn't great either. Interesting for sure, but the hops could've been dialed way back. Oh well, I'll still drink every Night Shift beer I see, and I'll gladly give Crue Brew another shot

Pours a med to a bit smaller off-white foamy head with fair retention, semi hazy darker amber to copper color

Nose brings sweet malts, lots of sweet malt, some toffee and caramel, toasty, with a little sweet candy apple coating, some fruity esters more generic tree fruit, maybe a bit of raisin notes, light perfumey alcohol, and a little spicy hop

Taste brings some sweet malts again, with more of the toffee up front, and a little caramel and molasses notes, a bit nutty and fair fruity esters, more fig raisin notes and generic tree fruit, light perfumey alcohol, hops really kick in though and get herbal and spicy with med-higher bitterness, malts get a touch creamy and gristy on the back end, but hops really dominate, finishing with high bitterness, spicy chewy hops

Mouth is med to fuller bod, med-higher frothy carb, light warming alcohol, a touch of astringency on the finish

Overall this started nice, good malt profile, but hops just tear it to shreds, as it turns into a DIPA, this is not an American Strong ale as it goes way off the end of the bitterness spectrum and becomes almost undrinkable (since I wasn't looking to drink a DIPA).

Light hop aroma but smell is overall underwhelming

Long lasting off-white head and deep honey-like amber color

Nice creamy head, somewhere in between smooth and crispy mouth feel, al dente?

First second of taste is quite nice, after that a decently strong bitterness which lasts for quite a while covering much of the flavor unfortunately. As the bitter flavor fades a couple minutes later a very mild but nice malty flavor reveals itself

It's ight, this is my first american strong ale so maybe i just don't like them. Going by reading a description of the style I would say they nailed it? Maybe? Oh it's 8.0%
