Despite today being the warmest day of the year so far, I’m feeling something heavy and malty to end off my night. That’s where this steps in, a winter warmer with added spices and figs. I don’t have very much experience with the style, but I’m always willing to explore it more
Pours murky brownish orange with 2 fingers of off white head that quickly fades to a thin cap and leaves no lacing
The nose here is rather nondescript, just sweet and darkly fruity without much spice character. Still, it’s not awful. I’m picking up on aromas of red grape, nutmeg, fig, toasted bread, and sticky toffee
The taste brings a bit more to the plate here, with more of the fruit-driven sweetness in addition to gentle spicing. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting nutmeg, plump figs, earthy cinnamon, and light bready malt. The swallow brings notes of sweet toffee, chewy dates, nutmeg, and toasted malt
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a silky yet light and airy beer that is refreshing for the abv and style. Finishes mostly dry with a hint of bready malt
This one was a bit weird. Kind of a roller coaster, but it was pretty good overall. I’ll keeping on trying their “Season” series as long as I see them
