Batch 1, 7/30/13, 8.4% ABV. 3 weeks old.
A: Hazy orange pour. Enormous and frothy tan head. Head fizzes out fairly quickly. Nice spiderweb lacing remains behind with an island of foam. Good retention.
S: Well, definitely loaded with simcoe. Lots of cat piss and grapefruit. Big fruity belgian yeast to go with it, melds nicely. Peppery and spicy too.
T: More of the same. A little grapefruit but then TONS of spicy and piney hops mixing with spicy black pepper from the belgian yeast. Almost woody too, pretty sure this isn't oak aged or anything but it has a distinctive woody, piney flavor. Lingering spices in the aftertaste.
M: Medium bodied, fairly astringent and spicy.
O: Well, it's not citranation but it's still pretty good. Very spicy, very piney. Surprising complexity for a single hop IPA. Belgian yeast seems to help out a lot there, plus I find simcoe to pretty good in that department as well.
