snagged a crowler of this from the brewery to enjoy with a pizza in my hotel room, and its perfect beer for that sort of occasion. its remarkably light in clear in appearance, thin bodied and golden honey colored, with a rising and receding airy white head, gone just a little too quick, leaving this looking a touch thin and lazy. the nose is crazy fresh, actually pretty pungent for a pale too, like this is approaching ipa range here, grapefruit and a more tropical note, very basic grain base, clean fermentation without any yeast character imparted. the flavor follows, lemongrass, fresh juniper and spruce, a botanical depth quite surprising for a little pale like this, and then enough finishing bitterness to be sort of punchy on the palate, again nearing the ipa realm, it’s a pale only in that its balanced by being light bodied and low in alcohol, flavor and bitterness are robust to say the least, this caught me off guard a little bit. it was great with a charry and cheesy wood fired pie, even took well to the hot peppers on it with the dry finish but lingering bitterness, and the freshness overall was on point. this was well ahead of expectations based on the beers i had at the brewery, and was maybe the best pale ale type i had while I was in wyoming last weekend. uniquely flavorful and drinkable at the same time, and a nice food beer overall, a standout in the style locally i have to imagine.
