Milky yellow, and finger thick head.

Bright and melon-y, so galaxy.

Bit harsh and a tad soapy but melon's there, and earthy. A punch up would do no harm, otherwise a quality beach companion. Richness comes through once poured, a musty sorta mandarin orange flavor.

Dry-ish, not what I'd call juicy.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. brandy snifter glass
Price: $22.00 for a 4-pack
From: Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, Calif.
Purchased: Aug. 28, 2020
Consumed: Aug. 28, 2020
Misc.: Canned on Aug. 25, 2020; Appeared to be Batch 4

Was lucky enough to pick up a 4-pack of this one and other one with my stay up in Manhattan Beach. Monkish’s website called it, “Double Dry Hopped (DDH) Double IPA with Galaxy and Amarillo.”

Poured a golden murky color with three fingers of frothy white head. Kind of a calm setting underneath the head with only a few noticeable bubbles. Perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled a touch more Amarillo than Galaxy. In order peach, orange peel, tangerine, pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit and fresh-cut grass. Much of the same from the can with the orange citrus notes leading the way. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste was not nearly as good as the nose. Something is a little off putting here, but can’t put my finger on it. Did get better each sip. Digging deep, got bitter orange peel, melon, tangerine, peach, pineapple, fresh-cut grass, passion fruit and lingering peppery spice on my lips. More Amarillo than Galaxy. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Bitter, spicy finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Overall this was outstanding, but I think I was overrating it slightly. Hopefully this gets a little better with time. Crazy that I’m disappointed in a 4.00 because it’s Monkish. (Overall - 4.00)

Sweet tropical hoppy and hint of zesty-dank nose on this one! Ha! Taste follows with a juicy, pineapple tropical vibe upront...and then a nice, hoppy bitter bite on the finish. Soft and juicy on the palate and very well-balanced. This is really good!

My first beer from Monkish! I had this at a bottle share. Canned 9/7/2018. Poured into tulip glass. It pours an opaque pale tangerine color with a thick, creamy milk white cap and lots of residual lacing. It's a pretty pour. Its nose is full of fresh fruit: tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon, and light floral hops. The taste is also superb. There are notes of tangerine/orange, peach, and overripe melon. The hop bill of Galaxy and Amarillo is highly flavorful and not overly bitter. There is a touch of pepper at the finish that nicely balances the sweet fruit. This ale is fairly creamy with a pleasant level of carbonation, and despite its 8.3% ABV it's very drinkable. I wish I had another can available. Overall, this is a superb DIPA. I understand why Monkish offerings are coveted and rated so highly. I hope to have the chance to try other beers from Monkish.

Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2018, Red Session. Aroma has really nice grassy hops and mellow fruits, guava comes to mind. Taste has a soft fruitiness with melon and peach notes but without any sweetness to it. Really milky with low bitterness.

The beer pours a hazy yellow with a medium white head. It has low carbonation. The beer smells of orange, cantaloupe, apricots, and peaches. It tastes of orange, cantaloupe, apricots, and peaches. The feel is medium light. My first IPA from Monkish and it didn’t dissapoint, very smooth.

Poured this out of a 1L growler, filled 12/23 on the Pour Some Sugar release.

Pours a great hazy orange, small head of foam, not much lace.

Sweet, tropical, orange, pineapple , with a bitter finish. Really awesome aromas.

Starts bold and tropical and finishes with a good bitterness and even some dank booziness. Great but I’ve had smoother Monkish.

Good body, effervescent carb, warm booze on the way down.
