Canned on 7/15/20; consumed on 8/4/20
Pours an opaque, dark sunflower gold body topped with a finger and a half of near-creamy white foam; decent head retention leaves a vague curtain of cap, a slight, frothy collar, and moderate spatter of soapy, webby lacing around the glass.
Aroma opens with earthy spiced mango and hoppy pineapple saturation accented with hints of blueberry upfront; a flourishing dank character over the middle takes an increasingly creamy tone into a back end of underripe gooseberry, guava, and lychee, with tropical resin flowing beneath; notes of wilted mint add a unique touch to the close.
Taste starts off with a resinous and pithy hit of creamy tangerine engulfing the palate upfront, soon inviting suggestions of ripe herb garden phasing into a softer grassiness before a creamy mid-palate; tropical tones build on the back end to a highlight of passionfruit and sticky mango on the finish.
Mouthfeel offers a medium body alongside a semi-airy, moderate carbonation steadying to a rounded, creamy hop prickle across the mid-palate; drying quickly into the back end, a moderate punch of herbal hop bitterness comes on quickly before resuming a semi-creamy, plush finish with a mild hop tingle through the swallow.
Synchronicity is realized as some of the best aspects of the velvety smooth tropics and peaks of intense herbaceousness I find in the best of the style unify for a truly nuanced hop experience; a comprehensive winner from Monkish.
