Canned on 7/7/20; consumed on 7/28/20
Pours an opaque, dark gold body capped with multiple fingers of soapy, white foam; solid head retention leaves a half-finger of craggy cap, heavily frothed collar, and chunky rings of lacing around the glass.
Aroma opens with airy tangerine and orange pith, becoming steadily herbal and grassy before embracing soft notes of dirt and guava rind over the middle and evolving to a prickly, tropical creaminess over time.
Taste offers clean tones of pineapple and grassy hops in tandem upfront as a rounded, herbal strawberry dankness peaks over the mid-palate and into a finish of citrus oils, grapefruit zest, and overripe mango peel.
Mouthfeel brings a taut medium body and a prickly, fluffing moderate-high carbonation imposing lightly on a developing creamy texture across the mid-palate; a rugged hop grit steadily dulls an inherent bitterness past the mid-palate; the back end dries slightly, with a slight juicy twang showing intermittently through the finish.
From a well-executed dry-hopping develops a consistency throughout, where tropical nuance sits comfortably alongside rawer, dank hops atop a plush, easygoing body; the overall result is one of the purer examples of a steady, detailed upper-tier NEIPA, and a quality showcase of an Other Half recipe from Monkish.
