Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. brandy snifter glass
Price: $22.00 for a 4-pack
From: Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, Calif.
Purchased: Aug. 19, 2020
Consumed: Aug. 19, 2020
Misc.: Canned on Aug. 18, 2020
Was lucky enough to pick up a 4-pack of this one with my stay up in Manhattan Beach. Monkish’s website called it, “Double Dry Hopped (DDH) Double IPA w/ Galaxy, NZL-32, and Riwaka. We have been trying out different, new 2020 lots of Galaxy hops. This beer uses a blend of different lots of Galaxy, and also Freestyle Hops experimental NZL-32 and Riwaka.” No idea what Riwaka is, but looking it up it has characteristics of grapefruit and kumquat. Looking up NZL-32 it looks like the characteristics of the hop are passion fruit, lime and candied melon.
Poured a pale, yellow hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Plenty of bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Almost perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled Galaxy, passion fruit, grapefruit, apricot, peach blossom, floral, papaya, melon and citrus zest. Much of the same from the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted about as good as the nose. In order got Galaxy, apricot, peach blossom, papaya, melon, passion fruit, grapefruit, floral, citrus zest and light peppery spice. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, dry finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Just another excellent Monkish hazy IPA. Can’t wait to see this one develop. (Overall - 4.25)

Staring up at the stars sober is pretty cool in itself. Yet when you add this beer to the mix, well, it’s like seeing a movie in 3d and while on some bubble kush - wow! This one is stupendous on all levels like winning the spelling bee in the second grade - yeah buddy.
