Type: 16-oz. can

Glass: Clear 16-oz. Bruges beer glass
Price: $20.00 for a 4-pack
From: Monkish Brewing in Torrance, Calif.
Purchased: Oct. 16, 2020
Consumed: Oct. 16, 2020
Misc.: Canned on Oct. 7, 2020; Split 4-pack with Sonny
Was lucky enough to pick up some Monkish once again while house sitting in Manhattan Beach. This one and another became available about 45 minutes after the initial drop, so I was lucky to find this one available. Online description called for a “Double dry-hopped (DDH) IPA with Galaxy, Riwaka and Mosaic hops. DDH IPA version of Tinker Beats.” Still new to Riwaka, but looking it up it has characteristics of grapefruit and kumquat.
Poured a pale-to-gold murky color with two fingers of frothy off-white head. Plenty of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Looking at the Riwaka characteristics, I would say more Riwaka than Galaxy with lesser Mosaic. In order got Riwaka, grapefruit, cantaloupe, melon, trash, Galaxy, apricot, passionfruit, lemon cookies, Mosaic, floral, grass and hints of bubblegum. More Mosaic and Galaxy from the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste followed the nose almost to a T. Riwaka still leads the way, followed by grapefruit, cantaloupe, melon, lemon cookies, spoiled tropical rind, bitter apricot skin, Galaxy, passionfruit, floral, light Mosaic, grass, hints of bubblegum and caramel candy squares. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, dry finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This was very good overall, but a bit of a let down considering the brewery. (Overall - 3.75)
