Thanks, Dave!

Got three Monkish beers and a few others from Dave when he was in San Diego. Although this was a bit behind my usual rule of 60 days (I’d rather it be under 30) (it was 85 days), I decided to give it a full review basically because it was Monkish and most likely it was released well too early anyway. An online description I found for this one was “Monkish Brewing Anniversary TRIPLE IPA with Phantasm and Citra, Nelson Sauvin, and Galaxy hops.”

Poured a light golden hazy color with three fingers of frothy white head. Could see lots of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass, looking a bit like a snow globe. World-class uneven spiderweb foamy lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)

The Citra immediately jumped out on the nose. Also orange, tangerine juice, Nelson, pineapple, mango, peach, nectarine, Galaxy, passion fruit, papaya, pine and herbal. About just as good from the can with Citra still leading the way. (Smell - 4.25)

First thing I noticed on the taste was how smooth it was for 10 pct. ABV. Citra still led the way, followed by orange, tangerine juice, pineapple, Nelson, mango, peach, nectarine, Galaxy, passion fruit, papaya, pine, herbal and lingering spice. (Taste - 4.50)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 5.00)

Damn. This was a world-class hazy TIPA. Maybe Monkish’s sweet spot is 85 days. (Overall - 4.50)

Appearance - The beer was a hazy shade of pale yellow with a inch of white head.

Smell - The nose was lightly lemony with hints of future bitterness.

Taste - The profile had strong lemon pepper notes. This was a big beer. The hops were almost pungent with bitterness. The bitterness stuck to the roof on the mouth and tongue. The finish seemed to be more of a dry lemon rind. From the lemon to the dry finish, it was quite a progression.

Mouthfeel - This hazy had the body of latex paint.

Overall - This was a delightful beer.
