Glass: Pure Project 14-oz. snifter elemental (earth)
Price: $16.00 for a 4-pack
From: Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, Calif.
Purchased: Nov. 26, 2021
Consumed: Nov. 27, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Nov. 23, 2021 at 5:37 p.m. PT
Stopped by Monkish on the way home from a football game in Carson. Was kind of last whim but I figured it was on the way so I might as well stop. Was psyched to see a Monkish lager. Didn’t really see any description for it.
Poured a light amber clear color with five fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the sides of the glass at different speeds, looking kind of like a snow globe. Perfect foamy lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled lemon zest, earthy malt, brown bread, Wheat Thins, toasty notes, caramel and Noble hops. Not quite as good out of the can with some metallic notes coming in. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted even better than the nose. In order got brown bread, Wheat Thins, toasty notes, caramel, bitter dirty Noble hops, earthy malt, peppery spice and lemon zest. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Abrupt, earthy finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Wow. Shocked that Monkish could do a lager this well, although I probably shouldn’t be. It’s nice to have a Monkish beer that you don’t need to wait a few weeks for it to taste where it’s supposed to. (Overall - 4.50)
