Half pint at Pro Pig. The appearance was basically a dark brown color with a slim finger’s worth of off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Lingering lacing slides into the beer. The smell started off with some sweet and roasty smooth coffee and cocoa flavors. Subtle nuttiness slides in underneath. The taste was mainly the same with a dry smooth connotation on the aftertaste and giving off a sweet sticky finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly smooth. Overall, I say this was a pretty good Brown ale that I would have again.

Really nice sweet, malty, roasted interpretation of the style. One of the best I've had.

a strong strong example of the style, as much English as American I think, with a beautiful smoky chocolate malt middle and a semisweet nutty element that makes it distinct. looks nice in the glass, tan lacy head on a just red tinted rich brown base. bready lighter malts in there with the roast and the cocoa, very well layered. I get an almond or even hazelnut earthy nutty thing that adds both body and richness. it takes a lot in a brown ale that isn't real hoppy to turn me on, and this one certainly does. its a beautiful slice of north country rural autumn, and even on a hot day in july, it takes me there. smooth and only carbonated as much as it needs to be to feel alive. I think its one of the better base brown ale styles ive had in a long time, and honestly may have been my favorite in house brew I tried at the pig. great with all their heavy flavorful meats too.
