Served on tap in a snifter

Appearance – The beer is served a deep mahogany color with a small white foam head. The head fades moderately fast to leave a bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is strong of a dark fruit smell of cherry and plum mixed with a good showing of a candied sugar aroma. Along with these smells comes a strong smell of yeast and a whole lot of a grainy and slightly buiscuity smell. A little bit of a spice smell of clove is there as well rounding out the aroma nicely.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter dark fruit flavor of cheery and raisin along with a bit of plum. With these tastes are some other sweet flavors of a candied sugar as well as some molasses. A decent showing of a biscuit and malty flavor mixed with yeasty taste and spice of coriander and clove accompany the sweeter tastes. As the taste advances, the presence of the alcohol becomes more and more pronounced, bringing more and more warming and hot boozy tastes to the tongue. With a little bit of a grainy taste and a increase in the hotter alcohol tastes of the brew, one is left with a rather warming and sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is somewhat lighter and crisp for a quad of 9.4 % abv with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the very sweet and hot flavors of the beer the feel is rather good and helps keep it a bit more drinkable.

Overall – A little too sweet and grainy for me in light of it’s more boozy taste. I prefer a drier quad overall but this is a decent quad and one you will like if you like things a little more hot and sweet.
