Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a hazy orange-red color with a one finger cap of off white foam. The head has a decent level of retention with it fading over time to leave a bit of lacing on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is strongest of a wheaty smell as well as a bit of roast and some caramel. Along with these aromas are some lighter smells of banana and yeast mixed with a little bit of dark fruit of cherry and plum.
Taste – The taste begins with a lighter wheaty and bready taste with some dark fruit and caramel mixed within. As the taste advances the wheaty fades a bit. A lighter banana flavor develops a little bit later with the caramel fading. All the while the wheat gives way to a slightly roasted malt taste and a little bit of more dark fruit of cherry and plum. For a 4 % abv. brew, in the end, one is left with a decently flavorful dunkel flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on slightly thinner side for a dunkel with a carbonation level that is average. For the lower abv, the lighter thickness is acceptable all while the average carbonation does a nice job of supporting both the wheaty flavors as well as still making for a rather easy drinking brew.
Overall – For the low abv. of the brew, this was rather flavorful and nice. A rather decent session style brew overall.
