Poured from growler into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours beautiful golden-amber color with a two finger head of super thick and creamy white foam. The head has an amazing level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave a ton of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is big of a mix of a bready and slightly grainy smell mixed with a decent showing of a more grapefruit citrus hop. Along with these smells are some lighter citrus orange smells as well as some other hop aromas of a herbal and grassy nature, which when mixed with the rest, create a rather nice and decently drier, but hoppy smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins on the slightly more dry side with a bready and cracker flavor mixed with a little bit of a caramel and pear taste. The sweeter flavors fade rather fast, with them being replaced by some hop flavors of an earthy and herbal nature. There is a little bit of a citrus taste as well as a hint of a floral hop flavor that develop later on in the taste. These new hop remain rather light in nature of the earthy and herbal hop flavors though and only fade to the background of the taste. Toward the end the dankness of the hop increases as some pine comes to the tongue, which ends up leaving one with a rather dry and dank moderately hopped flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner side for the 5.6 % abv. of the brew, with it containing a carbonation level that is rather average to a little bit high. The feel is rather decent for the mix of dank hop and crisper flavors of the brew, with it making it more easy drinking, but still flavorful beer.
Overall – A decent IPA overall, but nothing that is to call home about. Worth a try if you are in Bozeman. But nothing to go out of your way for.
