Formerly Belgian Dubbel

This Belgian brown ale is fruity from the special Lacheuf strain of yeast and full of rich caramel from our house-made candi sugar. Enjoy our interpretation of an ancient brewing tradition.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours is served a deep red amber color with a tiny head of fizzy white foam. The head fades very fast leaving only a trace of fizzy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is big and delicious. It is strongest of some candied sugar as well as big of some darker fruits of cherry and plum. Along with these smells are some nice aromas of a yeastiness as well as some coriander and clove. Other sweet smells of some brown sugar and a little bit of biscuit and bread are there as well, creating a very persuasive and inviting aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a mix of the fruity flavors that were detected in the nose (cherry and plum) and is combined with some other bready and yeasty tastes. As the taste advances the fruity flavors get even stronger all while some flavors of a candied sugar taste come to the tongue as well. Hints of coriander and clove come to the tongue in the middle to the end of the taste, but these remain relatively light overall. In the end some light grass and hay tastes join the flavor, mixing with the rest to leave a sweet, but still rather crisp dubbel flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is quite thin for a dubbel with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly lower side. While the carbonation was good, a slightly thicker feel may have been slightly better for the fruity, yeasty, and bready flavors of the beer, helping to accentuate these and highlight the dubbel style of the beer.

Overall – A more crisp and pretty easy drinking dubbel overall. This was a rather tasty brew overall, and with the weaker body and low head profile aside, this was fantastic.
