Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a reddish amber color with a one finger head of just off white foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is rather sweet with lots of caramel and a tiny bit of a dark fruits of cherry and raisin. Along with these aromas comes some smells of a bready nature as well as some hop smells of an earthy and pine smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a somewhat more malty taste of a bready nature with some caramel, molasses, and a hint of darker fruits. The hop is lighter upfront, but grows a bit as the taste advances, with the hops that were detected in the nose; pine and earth. Some light grassy hop tastes join at the very end, and with an increase in the pine and earthy hop, one is left with a rather thick and tasty, more dankly hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average side for a pale ale/IPA of it’s 7 % abv. and it has a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. The lower carbonation is great for the malt and the more dank hop tastes of the brew, with the thicker body accentuating the taste even more.
Overall – This was a rather enjoyable and tasty English style brew overall. While I wouldn’t consider it a “pale ale” as the name protests, the taste is rather nice and makes for a rather flavorful and decently hopped brew overall.
