Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance-The beer is served a dark brown, nearly black color with a one finger head of cream colored foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of chocolate and cola smell mixed with some roasted malt aromas. Along with these smells pine and a little bit of herbal hop with some other aromas of sweet caramel as well.
Taste – The taste begins with a roasted malt taste mixed with some other nice dark cocoa and light caramel tastes. As the taste advances a cola flavor comes to the tongue, with it getting stronger and stronger as the taste advances. After the start of the taste, there is also a light hop flavor of pine and herb that come to the tongue, with both of these getting stronger to the end of the taste. With a slight loss of some of the fruitiness, one is left with a nice roasted, lightly sweetened and moderately dankly hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the dark flavors mixed with hop the feel is rather well done with the carbonation good for the dark flavors while the moderate body is very nice for the hop.
Overall – A good easy drinking black IPA overall. A nice roasty and decently hopped brew overall.
