Our small batch series carries on! This time we brewed an Oatmeal Stout for the impending New England winter weather. Drivetrain pours a jet black with a persistent mocha head. We taste upfront coffee roast flavor backed by dark fruit character, and a light malty sweetness. The oats lend a slight nutty flavor, and help contribute to the smooth creamy mouth feel of this beer, making her a real sipper. Enjoy!

Look: brownish/black with a 1 finger mocha colored head.
Smell: roasted oats/grains with a sweet burnt sugar aroma.
Taste: black coffe with sugar, dark chocolate, and a little black cherries on the finish.
Feel: creamy and full with a tingle on the palate.
Overall: Outstanding oatmeal stout. I definitely pick this one up whenever it's on tap.

For all of the love and hype around the TH ales I must say their dark offerings are just as good and offer more variety.
Pours a deep black with thin lacing and small mocha head. Smells of molasses, dark fruit, a bit of cocoa, and roasted oats; some coffee quality.
Taste is bitter coffee and unsweetened cocoa followed by dark fruits. Finish is a bit too acidic and dry for the style.
Mouthfeel is very well done. Not overly carb and soft but thin.
Overall this is a good offering. Nothing earth shattering but still a darn good oatmeal stout.

Rating to style here. Definitely not one of the best stouts I've ever had. But I'd say it's the best oatmeal stout I've ever had. Really nothing special though.

L: Dark black, opaque, pours a thin mocha head that quickly dissapates. Leaves little lacing.
S: Smells very grainy, like raw oatmeal. Not very strong in terms of roasty malt notes, though there are some. Some fruity notes mixed in there as.
T: Pretty nice. Slightly dry, and very sweet, like chocolate syrup. Wish it was a little drier, but its not bad. Not overwhelming to the palate, either, which means everything is balanced well. Also hints of dark fruit on the aftertaste, somewhat faint but akin to cherries covered in chocolate, and cola.
F: Carbonation is somewhat low, but present just enough for the style. Body is full. Not much astringency which is nice.
O: Overall this is a nice oatmeal stout. A little different from some of the classics like Sam Smith, chiefly that its much sweeter and less dry. Great stout though, in the end after careful review of the beer it has some subtle characterists I really like.

750ml swingtop growler into a Grrrz teku. Shared with schen9303.
Pretty typical looking for the style. Nose is of liquorice, logan, roasted malt, raisin, coca cola and chocolate. Sweet and very aromatic. Chocolate, prunes, soy sauce, liquorice and roasted malt up front. Sweet all over. More roasted malt and dark fruit in the middle with a distinct cola flavor. Hazelnut and walnut at the end with some maple syrup. Delicious!
Super smooth and rich on the palate without being heavy. Really drinkable and silky and soft on the finish.
Very solid beer and true to the style. Just above average all the way around.
