The fourth installment of our small batch pale / blond ale series brings a tiny Belgian treat. Echelon Four pours a hazy gold color with a bright white head. Fruity esters reminiscent of orange rind and lemon zest along with semi sweet malts arise from the glass. Flavors of grapefruit peel, floral hops, and spice play off the palate. At 4.3% she’s a crispy summer drinker!

Just picked this up in a 750ml growler from the brewery today…and unexpectedly drinking it this evening. It's lovely, more of a daytime beer perhaps, but does this curious thing where it hovers just on the right side of being…slight. The tastes described in the boilerplate are all there, particularly the citrus rind--the lemon leaps off the nose--and the aftertaste is all spent lemonade (in the best sense) but what's really extraordinary about this beer (from a brewery that's good at so much besides just IPAs, although Lord their IPAs are great) is that it is slightly everything in such a balanced way: slightly tart in an age of gag-me tartness, slightly Belgique-yeasty in an age of Belgian-Boulangerie-in-a-glass, slightly citrusy when usually you feel like you're being clubbed with the bag of oranges from The Grifters (1990). Tree House can do anything they choose to do.
