The art and science of brewing continues to captivate us - every opportunity to experiment is enriching in a way that is difficult to describe. To that end Curiosity Forty Three aims to pair an expressive hop with an expressive fruit. Our current crop of Simcoe has been exhibiting wonderful characteristics of red grapefruit. To amplify and complement this character, we introduced peak Texas grown red grapefruit into the mix. Utilizing fresh pressed juice in the kettle and fresh rind during cold conditioning along with heaps of beautiful Simcoe hops, Forty Three exhibits authentic flavors and aromas of red grapefruit and tropical fruit and finishes with a clean and pure rind character. A soft body and supple mouthfeel contribute to a beer that is both well rounded, extremely flavorful, and wholly unique. We hope it can contribute in a meaningful way to a joyful holiday celebration.

The flirtation that all brewers have with hops usually lands them at the feet of curiosity. that curiosity fuels a series of ales that tinker and play with combinations, single use and amplification in taste. The brewers at Tree House swings for the flavor fence with a Simcoe heavy IPA that expounds upon natural grapefruit flavors with actual red grapefruit for depth and brightness.

Curiosity Forty Three captivates the senses immediately with the bright and grapefruit-centric perfume that only the citrus fruit can provide. Yet above its amber gold austere, a scent of tropical fruit, cream and floral honeysuckle ride in tow. Medium sweet on the early palate, its taste shares a honey, light pastry and fructose simplicity with a frothy starchy feel.

Sweetness and creaminess both relax on the middle palate as the waves of grapefruit flavors wash over the middle palate. A more obvious tone of red grapefruit tingles the tongue with its natural acidity and bright sunny taste. But the white grapefruit flavors of hops add a piquant sharpness that leads to a strong grassy flavor with tea leaf, mint and chive opening the later taste to a peppery, resinous bitterness.

Soft on the palate, the medium bodied beer remains creamy and smooth enough to take an edge off of the grassy bite from hops. Still, a verbena-like, stemmy and weedy aftertaste grips the gullet tighter than expected from the brewery's usual New England styled IPA.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing this can.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice hazy light gold hue with a creamy one finger head that fades to leave light wisps and nice lacing.

S - Aromas of musty citrus, orange peel, really nice tropical notes. Musty pineapple. The nose just explodes.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice citrus peel, good tropical notes. Nice pineapple, the finish is a bit malt heavy but that's to be expected due to age.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, fluffy, body is a bit thin.

O - Overall this was a very solid ipa, it shows it's age but it's still a good beer.

Canned 12/21/17, solstice power, thanks to rudzud

Nice pillowy fluffy head fades semi slowly, a little lacing, hazy murky pale orange color

Nose big orange cream, tangerine dream, creamy wheat toasty notes, orange rind cereal, little mango, papaya, some pulp, very bright esp for the age

Taste big citrus again, orange cream, tangerine dream, lots of pith and pulp, creamy toasty wheat, mango flesh and little papaya tropical, little cracker malt, touch of bitterness on teh finish, slight doughy, slight candied orange

Mouth is med bod but a bit lighter carb but decent, fair creamy.

Overall very nice, mouth was not as full as I expected but not bad, just not perfect like other TH beers, however, the nose was awesome, and taste was pretty nice.
