Enjoyed on tap at the brewery today.
A - Poured a nice dark brown almost black with a thick mocha head that fades to leave thick wispy heads. Rather nice legs.
S - Aromas of roasted dark malts, little bit of char, typical Tree House milk stout aroma. There are nice roast notes going on here, flashes of coffee as well that builds as it warms. The chocolate here as it a nuttiness, little fudgy with solid enough dark chocolate. The star though is the very aggressive coconut aroma. Borders on overly sweet, the main aroma here is a Mounds bar. Just super aggressive coconut. Wild stuff.
T - Taste is like the nose but much much more intense and what I was expecting. There are nice creamy lactose notes as well as nuttiness and flashes of coffee. The chocolate though is just lovely; big rich fudge and cocoa nibs, tons of syrupy chocolate and rich rich milk chocolate. Thick, globby and rich chocolate. The coconut isn't quite as sweet but certainly pronounced. Little chewy coconut and condensed milk thing going on, very dessert forward. The finish is almost nutty thanks to the coffee so the mind really tricks into thinking this is almond joy like.
M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, thick, creamy, alcohol is hidden very nicely. Feels a bit thicker than I remember this being from the can.
O - Overall this was a very enjoyable milk stout, thick, rich, creamy with lovely chocolate notes. The coconut results in a beer that reminds me of a non barrel aged Goose Island Prop that's got a milk stout base. It's incredibly well executed while still being balanced. Really, really enjoyable.
