After a three and a half year slumber in French oak, Native Nine, brewed with raw wheat and wildflower honey, emerges to display richly complex notes of sour cherries, tannic grapefruit, and barnyard funk. It exhibits depth and complexity that is only possible with immense patience, natural selection, and precise brewing application.

Batch One, bottling date unknown
Tree House in Charlton had this as a special bottle service beer, so I just had to try it. I’ve been waiting to try anything even remotely wild and funky from them so I’m very excited. Let’s get into it
Pours a mostly clear deep gold with a finger of white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
Oh wow, the funk is super intense in the nose. I’m picking up on aromas of wet hay, old leather, sour peach, white wine vinegar, white pepper, tart cherry, and sharp oak
It’s a bit more understated in taste funk-wise, but it works really well for what it is. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting tart cherry, leather, brown sugar, fresh oak, lemon juice, and light crackery malt. The swallow brings notes of white wine vinegar, gummy apricot, sharp oak, lemongrass, bready malt, and peach
A light medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a tangy beer. Finishes neutral but coats the mouth a bit
This is a very good beer. I’m looking forward to Tree House releasing more funky stuff

Bottle share at Tree House. Just a fantastic wild ale. Complex and balanced between tartness, fruit and funk. Delicious.

Just a style that I really like and this is exceptional. Not to puckery. Really glad it was available.

16oz. capped bottle into a Founders snifter. Shared with schen9303.
Nice goldenrod color. Great lace. Average, coarse head. Nose is lemon zest, oak, a slightly tart stonefruit, vinegar, and a prickly champagne tartness. Beer opens tart pear, lemon zest, and apricot. Slight touch of vinegar in the middle with more stonefruit pit and oak in the middle. Tart, accented, foamy finish with more lemon, apricot, and vinegar at the finish. Body is light with ample carbonation. Prickly and lively on the palate and goes down aggressive with an oily, filmy finish that coats the palate.
Not as overly acidic as most other American Wild Ales but the tartness and acidity is building quite a bit in this one. Time to open these if you have it.
